Public Records Request

The rules for requesting Court records in Ohio are contained in the Ohio Rules of Superintendence 44-47, not the Sunshine Laws in O.R.C. §§ 149.43 et seq. or the Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”). However, the rules are very similar.

Record requests will be provided in a reasonable amount of time, which can vary depending on the type and number of records requested. All records are also reviewed by the Legal Department for redaction of any confidential information prior to release, which may take additional time depending on the nature of the record.

To request copies of case documents or case history information, including for a probation investigative report:

  • It is highly recommended you complete the Request for Information form. Provide as much information as you know. Note: the “child” is the name of the person whose records you are requesting, even if that person is now over 18 years old.
  • Requests may be submitted in any of the following ways (choose only one—submitting multiple copies of the same request will delay your request):
    • Submitting the request form at the Clerk’s Office in person
    • Emailing the request to JCRecordsRequest@cuyahogacounty.us
    • Faxing the request to 216-443-3507
    • Mailing the request to: Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court, ATTN: Legal Department 4th Floor, 9300 Quincy Ave, Cleveland, Ohio 44106

To request an employee personnel file:

    • Calling 216-443-3400
    • Emailing JJCHR@cuyahogacounty.us

To request any other type of Court administrative record:

  • You may use the Request for Information form and leave the “Case Information” section blank. You may also describe the records you are seeking in an email.
